2018 California Special Elections - Political Window Reminder

California Assembly Members Raul Bocanegra (District 39), Matt Dababneh (District 45) and Sebastian Ridley Thomas (District 54) have resigned their seats in the Legislature.

The special election for all 3 seats will be held on April 3rd with a potential runoff on June 5th. If one candidate exceed 50% of the votes in April, they will win the seat and the run-off will be cancelled.

April 3rd Election – 45 day window opens on Feb 17th
June 5th Run Off (if required) - 60 day window opens on April 6th

The recall election for Senator Josh Newman (Senate District 29) will be held on June 5th. If a majority does not vote in favor of a recall, Senator Newman keeps his seat. If a majority does cast their vote for a recall, the candidate who has the highest vote total is elected. This must be treated as a general election.

Main Cities in Assembly District 54 – Beverly Hills, Culver City, Los Angeles, Marina Del Rey, Venice, and West Los Angeles.

Main Cities in Senate District 29 – Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Chino, Chino Hills, City of Industry, Cypress, Diamond Bar, Fullerton, La Habra, La Palma, Placentia, Rowland Heights, Stanton, Walnut, West Covina, and Yorba Linda.
