Bill Denton Named GSM Council Chairman

Los Angeles – KROQ General Sales Manager, Bill Denton has been named Chairman of Southern California Broadcasters Association’s General Sales Managers Council.

“The Chairman of the GSM Council is a challenging role,” said Mary Beth Garber, SCBA President. “It calls for people with outstanding leadership skills to lead people who are all leaders themselves. Bill will bring a seasoned perspective to the role in a time of change and challenge. Our thanks to Matt Mallon, GSM of KSPN, who has served for the past two years and has worked on reinvigorating the Council itself.”

In accepting the position Denton said, “These are challenging, but exciting times. Radio continues digital platforms and other brand extensions. We have more ways than ever to offer advertisers to be able to engage with our millions of listeners. I am honored and look forward to working in conjunction with Mary Beth Garber and the many talented GSMs in LA as we expand and shape the future of radio sales in the world’s #1 radio revenue market.”

Bill’s radio career includes 20 years with the Christal Radio division of Katz Media as seller and LA Sales Manager, as well as local and general sales management in Los Angeles. He also held a key position with Newmark Advertising. He is a proud parent of three sons and resides in Pasadena with his wife.

The General Sales Managers Council was formed in 1994. Its goal was to create a training program and ethics standards for station Account Executives and develop ways to promote radio within the advertising community. It created SCBU, a 10-week course taught by several GSM volunteers and Mary Beth Garber. The Council created and continues to present the SCBA Best Spot of the Month Award to advertisers and their agencies throughout the market that have outstanding radio spots.
